On January 9, 2001 Apple Inc. introduced iTunes as a proprietary digital media player application capable of playing and organizing digital music and video files. Apple's digital media players iPod and iPhone use iTunes as an interface to manage its contents with the capability of connecting to the iTunes Store via the Internet for purchasing various music videos, applications, podcasts or even gift certificates which can be instantly emailed or printed.
